EN source master · P06-L08 · 30 minutes estimated · needs_review
Offline formative study. No wallet connection, real funds, private keys, signatures, live trade or personal portfolio inputs. Visuals are specifications. This source master remains needs_review; completing the formative exercise does not issue certification.
Why this matters
A stress table can reveal a plan's fragility while still omitting failures that cannot be expressed by a price shock.
Explanation
Freeze the fictional inventory
The desk has1000 units: A 500,B300,C200, no borrowing or new cash flows. These are assigned exposure values, not recommended allocations. Each scenario applies a stipulated percentage change and total exit cost. Use starting values consistently and avoid adding net costs twice.
Calculate scenarios, not predictions
Scenario1 has A−20%,B−30%,C−5%, plus10 units total exit cost. Scenario2 uses−50%,−40%,−20%, cost 20. These are deliberately adverse teaching scenarios; no likelihood or coverage probability is supplied. Sample association cannot authenticate future correlations [CORR].
Add operational dependencies
C's fictional redemption route can be unavailable. The result should mark200 units inaccessible under that variant, not silently assume an executable sale or automatically write its market value to zero. Separate valuation, realizability and permanent loss. An eventual recovery value remains UNKNOWN.
Review the model
Hypothetical fills and stops have limitations [CFTC]; margin rules can change for products where they apply [MARGIN]. Here no margin exposure is supplied, so do not invent a liquidation event. Journal the scenario assumptions, losses, unavailable exits and unmodeled factors such as wider spreads, venue failure and correlated gaps. A finite scenario set is not a worst-case bound or a recommendation to act.
Key terms
- Stress scenario: assigned adverse changes without probability claim.
- Realizability: ability to convert a position under stated conditions.
- Inaccessible balance: unavailable redemption, not automatically zero value.
- Model limit: omitted mechanism or uncertain assumption.
Historical example
ILLUSTRATIVE inventory A 500,B300,C200. S1 returns−20/−30/−5%, total exit cost 10. S2−50/−40/−20%, cost 20. Operational variant O: C route unavailable; retain inaccessible pre-stress200 separately and do not apply a fabricated execution to it.
Visual specifications
Evidence panel with S1/S2 contribution tables and O inaccessible lane; distinguish modeled residual equity, marked value and executable proceeds. No personal-data inputs or probability shading.
What the evidence proves
Calculated losses under the supplied price/cost assumptions and explicit inability to price O's execution.
What the evidence does not prove
Actual exit capacity, scenario probabilities, a maximum possible loss or a suitable allocation.
Evidence classifications
- OBSERVED: FIX-P06-L08 supplies inventory500/300/200.
- INFERRED: S1 residual 790 under complete stipulated exits.
- UNKNOWN: realizable C proceeds in O.
- INSUFFICIENT EVIDENCE: two scenarios bound every future loss.
Common mistakes
- Averaging returns without weights.
- Treating inaccessible balance as sold.
- Calling selected stress the worst possible case.
Practical exercise
Compute S1/S2 loss contributions and residuals. Compare each to a separately assigned250-unit loss budget. Write an O report without guessing C proceeds, then list three missing assumptions and a fictional review action.
Deliver calculations or annotations, claim/source table and limitations. Suggested allocation: study 12 minutes, exercise 8, correction/quiz 10; estimate subject to calibration.
Show worked correction
S1 losses 100+90+10+cost 10=210; residual 790; budget headroom40. S2 losses 250+120+40+cost 20=430; residual 570; budget overrun180. O: C's200 starting units are inaccessible; proceeds and recovery remain UNKNOWN, so neither S1 nor S2's complete-exit total is an authenticated O outcome. Missing assumptions include spreads under stress, route availability and joint shock coverage. Submit the model for stipulated desk review; no live action is requested.
Formative rubric (5 points): reproducible inputs, correct method, correct result, claim-specific evidence scope, explicit limitations. Invented observation, advisory output or unsupported safety claim requires correction regardless of score.
Checklist
- Use starting exposure weights.
- Include one total cost term.
- Separate price loss and exit outage.
- Document unmodeled factors and review.
Summary
A risk review combines weighted arithmetic with exit and operational limits. Unpriced failures remain explicit instead of becoming invented fills.
Summary
- Stress a supplied fictional portfolio with costs.
- Document unpriced operational failures and model limits.
